I wanted to let everyone know that I’ve got two separate gallery opening coming up for my Afghanistan work.
It’s so exciting for me to be able to share these photos with more people. One of the shows, at
The Center for Photography at Woodstock , is especially notable because it’s curated by Alison Nordstrom
from the George Eastman House. I am one of nine photographers selected for their annual Photography Now show.
The other show is at Kingston Museum of Contemporary Arts
It’d be great to see you at one of the openings‚Ķ.or both! Details below.

Sgt. Edelman L. Hernandez, 23, of Hyattsville, Md., died April 11 in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan, while on combat patrol. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

He was not taken by hostel fire or enemy contact. His squad was returning from a patrol when he fell into the water during a river crossing and couldn’t get his gear off in time.
He was in waist deep water.

letters to the editor.

On behalf of my son who is fighting in Afghanistan, thank you for bringing attention to the war there ["The Taliban Hunters," by Joshua Hammer, March]. My son has done tours in South Korea and Iraq. When I tell people he is currently in Afghanistan they believe he is safe and say, “thank God he isn’t in Iraq.” But I have spent many days writing condolences to families who have lost loved ones this year in Afghanistan. A bullet or IED there is just as deadly as a bullet anywhere. We are fighting two wars, but the media and Congress seem to recognize only one. -Anne Conrad, Scottsville, AZ
