Tonight I hung out at the cabul coffee shop for the weekly movie night. This weeks film was “The Path to 9-11″
… after the film the owner of the coffee shop, who once fought with Massoud
said that the combat scenes of the northern alliance were ‚Äúa little embellished”
… I later struck up a conversation with a anti – narcotics agent who told me that because of opium production in southern Afghanistan the Taliban have bought an army that outnumbers the brits 25 to one….and the best way to combat it is to buy them for more money. “it’s all about supply and demand.”
Tomorrow I head to Bagram.

back in Kabul.

I arrived in kabul this morning, went through customs, making sure they stamped my passport with the correct date this time…. Debbie, who runs the Kabul beauty school, picked me up from the airport and we went to the coffee shop where i had a cheeseburger and fries for lunch.
on the way we stopped at a chinese brothel to buy three bottles of red wine from a german who is also a part time butcher.
Now i am settling into my guest house
in kabul. more later…time to take a nap

and away i go…

I’ve spend this week taking care of all the last minute details for my trip. I just received my travel itinerary from the magazine…. they put the story “slug” next to my name…
(a “slug” is a reference name given to a story to help reference it quickly ) ….anyway, the “slug” is “Taliban” and at the top of my itinerary it says “chad hunt – taliban”
As if having a beard and a afghanistan stamp in my passport wasn’t bad enough for getting through security.
