afghanistan, take two

I just received an assignment from a national magazine to go back to Afghanistan.
This time I wil head to FOB Jalalabad with a writer. Jalalabad is in the Nangarhar Province , south of Kabul.
It looks like I will leave on November 11th and return on December 6th.

Last night I went to the Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Awards 2006 . I photographed students from Dartmouth College for the current issue. They designed a gyroscope wheel to help make bikes more stable for kids trying to learn how to ride. The most impressive winner was Jock Brandis, a TV and movie engineer in North Carolina, who developed an inexpensive, beyond easy-to-make peanut sheller .
